Clio's Toolbox
History is everywhere - the demand at the university to deal with it is correspondingly high. Clio's Toolbox, a cross-departmental project at the Institute of Historical Studies, offers Bonn students from all departments access to the diverse and extensive basics of historical studies.

What is Clio's Toolbox?
Clio's Toolbox is the course-independent teaching-learning medium for the study of history at the University of Bonn. The digital platform on eCampus provides students and teachers at the University's Institute of History with learning courses and modules that can be integrated into courses on a modular basis as needed or worked on by students on their own initiative.
Clio's Toolbox is coordinated by Severin Werner M.Ed. and managed by the project group.
Following its namesake Clio - the muse of historiography - it is dedicated to teaching the tools of the trade for historians, i.e. for prospective historians. Clio's Toolbox is intended to accompany students through their bachelor's and, if necessary, master's studies in the form of an additional learning resource that they can access at any time.
Clio's Toolbox goes far beyond the propaedeutic basics of history ("PGG"), which are taught to students in the course "Fundamentals of Scientific Work" and also includes methodological basics from the area of proseminars ("PGG+") as well as modular in-depth content - quasi special tools from the toolbox of historical science (Clio's Toolbox; in short: "CT").
Furthermore, the focus of Clio's Toolbox is to impart subject-specific knowledge and skills within the science of history. The contents are roughly assigned to the sections Study History and Propaedeutics Ancient History, Middle Ages, and Modern Times, and are in turn structured within the epochs according to three levels of competence that build on one another.
Sections

Study history
What do I do in the history program? What are the requirements? How do "history" and "historical studies" differ? What is a "source"? How do I find and use scholarly literature? How and what do I have to write in my studies and what is a term paper?
Propaedeutics Ancient History
What sources does ancient history deal with and how can I find them? How can I find literature on topics in ancient history? How and with what do the auxiliary sciences in ancient history work in detail?

Propaedeutics Middle Ages
Which sources are relevant for the study of the Middle Ages? How do I find literature on medieval topics?
What are the basic historical sciences and what are they concerned with in detail?
Propaedeutics Modern History
WWhich sources are particularly relevant for the study of modern topics? How can I find literature on topics of modern history? What is an archive, how does it work and what are its tasks? What do the auxiliary sciences deal with in modern times?

On the lowest level you will find the Propaedeutic Fundamentals of History, to which the contents of the exercise "Fundamentals of Scientific Work" are assigned. Here you will basically learn the absolute basics of scientific work in the subject history for the first year of study.

At the intermediate requirement level, you will encounter content that builds on the propaedeutic foundations and supplements them with aspects needed for the proseminars.

At the in-depth level with the highest level of requirements is all content that goes beyond the basic and proseminar level. Here you will find:
- propaedeutic courses accompanying seminars and exercises
- Cooperation courses with (internal and external) partner institutions
- self-study courses covering the entire spectrum of bachelor and master studies.
